Ty paces in front of my desk. He’s been out of jail for about six months now and has proven invaluable. In that time, he’s also gotten back with his girl. “It’s been three fucking days, Jay. I’m not waiting for a second longer.” I get him. I so get him. Marco kidnapped Ty’s pregnant girlfriend, Jessa, as payment for Ty betraying him. This is what Marco does. He’s a fuckin’ weasel who always seems one step ahead. Impossible to trust anyone; I feel like a fool because there’s an obvious leak somewhere, and I can’t fuckin’ find it.

“Got a location.” Neil busts through the door, and before anyone can say anything, we’re all running out of the building. Neil’s an officer and was an addition to the team by default since he became friends with Jessa not knowing who she was. But right now, she’s in the hands of Marco.

We speed there, Ty the first and not waiting for anyone. I don’t pretend I wouldn’t be the same man he is right now if I knew that Marco had my girl. And she’s got a baby in her belly. My chest tightens as I push the thoughts of what could be happening to her right now away and screech to a halt.

Ty’s not going to wait, I know it. He’s so damn in love with his girl, and nothing anybody could say would hold him back right now.

And I don’t blame him.

Still, I shout that backup’s two minutes out, hoping to calm him for a second so we can make a plan and hopefully not all get killed in the process of rescuing her.

“That’s two minutes longer that she’s not with me.” Not surprisingly, Ty disobeys orders and enters the building without waiting for backup.

Neil and I follow, covering his back. All of our senses are on high alert right now, and we make our way down the hall and to the basement. Adrenaline pumps through me.

This is it. We’ve busted our asses, lost time, sleep, sanity. I’ve gotten dirtier than I ever thought I would and broken laws I swore I’d uphold. But we got what we needed. Evidence. Statements. DNA. We have it all. Most importantly, we found where he was keeping all the innocent young women he’d taken. They’re free. Finally. So now I can be, too. So can Livvie. Because it ends now.

A woman screams, and in a split second, Ty’s busting down a door and demanding, “Let her go.”

“I don’t want to. I just got her trained.” I round the corner just in time to see Marco pull her hair and display a black and blue bruise on the side of her face.

“She’s fucking pregnant, you bastard!” Ty screams, his arm shaking even with the gun trained on Marco’s head.

My own hand is steady. My breathing even. My heart calm. I train my sight on his head.

“I know. That’s the only reason she’s still alive. Figured it’d be fun to fuck with your spawn.”
